History and Tradition

Who has once discovered the nestor Hotel Ludwigsburg from inside knows that the old garrison bakery is hardly visible anymore. But from outside the protected red brick building with its wide round window frames strongly remember the time as barracks during the garrison period. The u-shaped premises at the north part of the parade ground were built from 1874 to 1893 under the direction of the German Empire.
At first the bread store, the bakery and the flour warehouse were constructed. In 1875 the building crossways was added. The south wing has completed the promises in 1893 containing the medical centre today. In 1914 the barracks were used as bakery administration and the warehouses as well as provision office and military bakery later.

The city Ludwigsburg characterized by the military for more than 250 years has been the largest south-west garrison base in 1921. One year later the camp was used as the catering office for the army of the German Empire. In 1945 the Allied Nations took over the property and used it just as furniture store until the end of the military use.
In 1996 the nestor Hotel moved in finally. Behind the front a modern 4 star city hotel emerged with bright architecture, latest technology and contemporary comfort. Nowadays it is hard to imagine that the meeting and banqueting centre was previously used to produce bread. Only the grey iron girder in the bed rooms and the restaurant remember the time as bakery. The special atmosphere of the building attracts guests from all over the world until today.
